Eduardo Solorzano, the president of Wal-Mart de Mexico, or Walmex, said the company would initially finance its banking business with its own capital. Last week, Mexico approved the opening of five new banks, including one by Walmex. Mr. Solorzano said he hoped the companys banking division would bring it closer to its customers. The bank is expected to offer basic deposits and loans, including savings accounts linked to debit cards and checkbooks.
